Mousekateers Guinevere & Mousekateers Rimmer

Mousekateers Guinevere(siamese fox std) x Mousekateers Rimmer(reverse siamese fox longcoat rex)

placed together: 21 October, 2009

due date: 11 November, 2009

born:  15 November, 2009

expecting: colourpoint beige in standard, long and rex coats.

Guin is a beautiful little Siamese of very nice proportions.  She unfortunately suffered an eye injury which cut short a promising show career.  She goes back to our beautiful foundation Siamese, Merlin and Allegresse so we are keen to keep her lines going.

Before we sent a lovely young Reverse Siamese longcoat rex buck to Melbourne we bred him at the last minute to Guin after the stud we wanted to use became unavailable.

Guin gave birth four days after her due date.  She was very active and showed no signs of distress so we weren't worried.  Guin birthed 10 black eyed babies.  Two were stillborn and one has half it's tail missing, I'd say Guin was a little over zealous in cleaning her new brood.  We haven't given her a nanny but she seems to be coping very well.

Mousekateers Maximum Cute x Gr Ch Rocket Onyx (blue burmese std)

Mousekateers Maximum Cute(blue siamese rex manx) x Gr Ch Rocket Onyx(blue burmese std)

placed together: 12 October, 2009

due date: 1 November, 2009

born:  1 November, 2009

expecting: blue siamese & burmese in standard & rex coats, and maybe some manx

Maxi comes from a lovely litter of blue siamese, she was the only manx in her litter.  Maxi has gorgeous features and teamed with the handsome and outstanding Onyx we're expecting some lovely babies.

Two pups were born on the due date but only one survived.  He is burmese and will be staying with us.

We will repeat the mating at a later date.

Ch Sunstate Willow (choc tan longcoat rex manx) x Ch Mousekateers Devil (black self longcoat rex)

placed together: 1 September, 2009

due date: 21 September, 2009

born:  26 September, 2009

expecting: chocolate, black, blue/ tans in longcoat rex & double longcoat rex, tailed & manx

This is Willow's 2nd litter and we hope that she is a better mum this time round.  In her first litter she lost over half of the pups, we're hoping that being homebred will make her feel safer so she can concentrate on the job at hand.

Willow was a much better mum this time.  We did lose 2 babies and ended up with 4 bucks, surprisingly only one, the dove/tan manx boy is a longcoat rex, the rest are longcoats.

We have 2 black/tan longcoats, 1 dove/tan longcoat and 1 dove/tan longcoat rex manx.

Ch Mkt Bonnie & CR Arnold

Ch Mousekateers Bonnie(colourpoint beige rex) x Coastal Rodents Arnold (reverse siamese fox longcoat)

placed together: 16 August, 2009

due date: 8 September, 2009

born:  8 September, 2009

expecting: colourpoint beige, reverse siamese in fox, standard, rex, longcoat & longcoat rex

Bonnie is our latest champion and has been paired with our new reverse siamese boy.  Arnold's pedigree is quite mixed so we're not sure what we'll end up with but it should be quite exciting.

Bonnie gave birth to 6 young, unfortunately 2 didn't survive, so we have 3 males and 1 female.  Bonnie was a bit over zealous in her cleaning of them and chewed off part of the females rear foot and damaged the hock on one of the males (fortunately this has healed with no problems).  One boy has a kink halfway down his tail, we're not sure if this is part of Bonnie's over grooming or an inheritable problem.

1 x doe - reverse siamese rex fox        2 x bucks - reverse siamese longcoat fox   &                                 1 x buck - reverse siamese longcoat rex fox.

Their coats are gorgeous as you can see in the photos.  We're very pleased with this litter.  We are keeping the girl (Peggy) and the longcoat boy with the tail kink (Bentley).

Above L - lc rex boy 17 days, C & R - lc & lc rex boys 4 weeks

All pups have been reserved.

Sunflower & Mkt Buddy

Sunflower (std black brindle) x Mousekateers Buddy (std himalayan)

placed together: 20 June, 2009

due date: 11 July, 2009

born:  12 July, 2009

expecting: brindles and hopefully some snowtigers

Sunflower is 10 months old so it was now or never to breed her.  We are excited to see what this pairing produces as both have quite good conformation and colouring.

We have 5 babies born on Sunday afternoon including 2 pink eyed.  It looks like Sunflower has retained at least one foetus as she is still lumpy.  Our Vet has confirmed this so we have started her on a course of Baytril to stave off infection and hopefully she'll be strong enough to survive and mother her pups.

Sunflower seems to have passed the retained foetus and is being a wonderful mother.  At 3 days of age we have 3 boys - 1 brindle, 2 black and 2 pink eyed girls.  We'll need to wait for coats to come in to confirm colours.

The photos below are taken of the boys at 6 weeks of age:-

Willow birthed at the buck's mousery and produced a lovely litter of 8 babies which included 7 manx. We are very excited with this litter and were surprised to get 3 pink eyed babies, unfortunately the pink eyed girl who had a neat butt and would have been our pick passed away after being left out of the nest overnight.

So we have:

3 black eyed girls - 1 neat butt, 1 tiny stub, 1 tailed

2 pink eyed boys - 1 neat butt, 1 tiny stub

2 black eyed boys - piggy tails

We look forward to seeing them and updating colours and coats.

Willow came home with her babies, unfortunately we've lost 2 more including one of the pink eyed boys with the neat butt, so we're down to 5.  She's a bit unsettled so we will leave photos and handling until she settles down more.

Another one of Willow's pups passed away and we think it is because she builds such elaborate deep nests the babies bury themselves under the chaff and can't get up to feed so becoming weak and suffocating under the substrate.  We have moved her nest to a teabox with only her tissues for bedding and changed the substrate to Breeders Choice litter.  They all seem to be doing a lot better.

Four babies remain 2 x choc tan lc girls - manx & tailed, 1 blue (?) lc rex manx girl, and 1 champagne lc rex manx boy.

Silkie (nanny) with Sylvie

Sylvie produced a lovely litter of 6 does and 2 bucks right on the due date.  We have 5 rex and three standard coats, and all babies are blue Siamese.  Two of the standard babies, a boy and a girl have small back spots.

Surprise, surprise one of the rex girls is a stubby manx.  This is the first manx born in our mousery.  All babies have done extremely well and Sylvie and Silkie work very well together to look after them.

At nine days of age you can see the bluish tinge to their coat and the rexing is starting to become apparent.

This was a very popular litter with all offspring reserved at a very early stage. The litter was also featured at about 4 weeks of age in a Pocket Pet segment shown on Better Homes and Gardens.

Pictured here at 5 weeks of age with their nanny, Silkie, you can see the blue point starting to appear on some of their noses.

Wizard & Tinks

Nine babies born late on a Wednesday night.  We're expecting himalayan and siamese, including some foxes, all in standard coat.

During the first week we noticed that Tinkerbelle was never in the nest.  Lacey was nannying them and Tinks was only feeding them occasionally.  One didn't survive and the others are a few days behind in their growth.  We removed Lacey, and Tinkerbelle has resumed all mothering duties.  The photo below is of the litter at 7 days but they look only 3-4 days of age.

We have 5 Siamese and 3 Himalayan.

2 x Siamese fox does - reserved

1 x Siamese fox buck

2 x Siamese bucks - 1 staying

3 x Himalayan bucks

At two weeks of age they are still small but progressing very well.  Some have opened their eyes.

This was a lovely litter, full of quality.  It's very hard to decide between them.

We have 2 girls and 1 boy.  The girls are both longcoat, one is havana, she has a small belly marking, white feet and a tail marking.  The other girl is a mock chocolate and is marked with half a band.  The boy is a longcoat rex mock chocolate self with a tail tip.

Litter # 17 Roc Pandora x NN Felix

Buck: Nibble Nut Felix(black self  longcoat double rex - tail marking)

Doe: Rocket Pandora(sealpoint siamese standard)

placed together:  10 December, 2008

date due:   31 December, 2008

Born:  31 December, 2008

Note:  Felix is a double rex which means that his coat pattern tends to be patchy and there will be periods in his life where he exhibits areas of baldness.  His offspring are all single rex so they will exhibit lovely plush curly coats without the baldness.  We cannot at this stage tell if they will be standard coat or longcoat.

Pandora produced 8 beautiful babies right on time.  She is an extremely good mother and has built the most impressive fortress to keep her babies safe.

Reservations are open and at the moment we have 5 boys available.  There are:-

Girls:

  •  1 colourpoint beige rex - staying
  • 2 black self rex - reserved (Hayley, Alivia)

Boys:

  • 2 x colourpoint beige rex
  • 2 x black self rex

Litter # 16  Zen Sherpani x Ch Mkt Devil

Buck: Ch Mousekateers Devil (black self longcoat rex)

Doe: Zen Sherpani (himalayan longcoat)

placed together:  1 December, 2008

date due:   22 December, 2008

Born:  23 December, 2008

Devil is Sherpani's uncle and so this is a linebred litter. We were expecting a possibility of shaded mice and black selfs and maybe a manx, but Sherpani has surprised us with 8 little black-eyed tailed pinkies.  We won't even hazard a guess at colours until they're a week old.  There is a possibility of blue.

She seems to be a very calm doting mum, not the least bit worried by us intruding, working in union with her nanny, Tinkerbelle to make the best nest.

Black and blue babies at day 3

Litter # 15 Mkt Buffy x Mkt Jinx

Buck: Mousekateers Jinx (burmese fox)

Doe: Mousekateers Buffy (colourpoint beige headspotted longcoat rex)

placed together:  15 September, 2008

date due:   4 October, 2008

Born:  4 October, 2008

After being away for the weekend we came home Sunday night to find Buffy had delivered 7 kittens, all with milk bellies and thriving.  Mintslice is doing a great job as nanny especially as Buffy is a bit of an airhead and spends her time away from the litter.  Buffy had split the litter up and Mintie was looking after 3 whilst Buffy had the other 4.  We put them all back together and thankfully she's left them like that.

At 4 days of age we have 5 black eyed and 2 ruby eyed babies.  Four of the black eyed are burmese and one is marked.  The ruby eyed babies will be Siamese marked and possibly silver, these are calculated guesses from her previous litter.  The interesting thing to see will be the coat types.

Well at 10 days of age we have all girls and they look like all rexes.  We have:-

  • 3 x burmese fox - 2 x tail kink, 1 x tiny bump on end of tail - Chris, Tanya
  • 1 x burmese self  - tail tip - staying
  • 1 x burmese marked - reserved Hayley
  • 1 x siamese marked - tail kink - Chris
  • 1 x blue himalayan - staying

A couple appeared to have headspots but these have now disappeared.  One burmese fox although she doesn't have a kink, she does have the slightest hint of a bump on the end of her tail which can be felt more than seen.

photos taken at 9 days of age

The babies are now 3 weeks old, and over the last week one of the chocolate foxes has lost almost all of her body coat.  This is the girl who has the least amount of rexing.  Some of the others are developing bald spots, apparently this can happen with rex mice and we anticipate that when their adult coat comes through they will have normal rex coats.  As their adult coats are coming through there looks like 2 are chocolate and 2 are mock chocolate.

photos at 22 days of age

We noticed at around the 3 weeks of age mark that Buffy had a hard lump in her lower abdomen.  Over a 2 week period this lump grew quite big (marble size).  We feared it may have been a mammary tumour but all of a sudden it burst and Buffy has cleaned the wound so you can see a hole near her genitals about 5mm diameter.  With veterinary advice we have deduced that it was mastitis.  The wound is clean and healing well, and with antibiotics (Baytril) Buffy should make a full recovery.

Litter # 14 Roc Gem & Mkt Wonka

Born:  12 July, 2008

Litter # 13 Mkt Buffy & Mkt Jinx

Buck: Mousekateers Jinx (burmese fox)

Doe: Mousekateers Buffy (colourpoint beige headspotted longcoat rex)

placed together:  15 June, 2008

date due:   5 July, 2008

Born:  6 July, 2008

expecting colours in:  ?, standard, longcoat, rex.

Buffy gave birth to approximately 6 offspring but only 3 survived.  Surprisingly all three are rexes.  We have one girl, a cpb fox and two boys, both apparently blue.  One boy is a pretty blue marked fox whilst the other is a blue self.

At 12 days old they are just starting to open their eyes and we think that the girl has ruby eyes making her Siamese and not colour point beige.  We'll keep a close eye on how this litter develops.

With Jinx being so special to us, we think we'll keep all three babies.

Litter # 12 Mkt Ace & Roc Gem

Buck: Mousekateers Ace(chocolate brindle)

Doe: Rocket Gem (fawn mm brindle rex)

placed together:  15 May, 2008

date due:   5 June, 2008

Born:  15 June, 2008 approximately

expecting colours in:  brindle standard and rex.

SURPRISE!!  Five days past Gems due date there were no signs of babies.  Deciding that Gem had not conceived we put her in with Wonka to see if could get a litter from her.  We checked on them daily just like all our mice and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, then on 4 July as we were preparing to clean their cage we noticed a couple of extra little furry noses poking out of their house.

Five babies approximately 19 days old came tumbling out.  We were stunned.

 Boys

 Girls

1 x Cream mm brindle (headspotted) - Sarah

1 x Fawn brindle - maybe staying

 1 x Cream mm brindle - Hayley

1 x Black self (belly marking)

1 x Cream brindle - staying

These babies should be going through the popcorn stage but they are so calm and laid back, great to handle and very gentle.  The little fawn brindle boy ran straight up Claire's arm and sat on her shoulder, so cute.  The black girl appears to be a little lighter in colour than a normal black so it will be interesting to see how they colour up as adults.

Litter # 11 Ch MKT Mini x NN Felix

Buck: Nibble Nut Felix(black self double Longcoat Rex - tail marking)

Doe: Ch Mousekateers Mini (sealpoint siamese standard)

placed together:  1 May, 2008

date due:   22 May, 2008

Born:  re-absorbed.

expecting colours in: black, siamese, standard, rex, longcoat rex.

Mini's due date came and went with no babies produced.  Mini was huge and we sadly took her to the Vet thinking she would have to be put to sleep.  The Vet had other ideas as she was still very active and not showing a lot of distress.  After consultation with other exotic animal specialists it was decided to monitor her condition and make the appropriate decision when needed.  We'd tried oxytocin in the past with no success so this was another tack.

Mini stayed at the Vets for the day and then we brought her home.  The next day her condition was the same.  She was hiding her head and didn't come out of her nest much, she started to get a slight clear discharge.  Our Vet gave us some Baytril and we started her on a course of twice daily doses.  Mini went everywhere with us including a film shoot and dog show in Sydney.  Throughout this period she still moved around quite freely although she wasn't eating at all.  She didn't have enough strength to fight us when we administered the antibiotic which made dosing quite easy.

After about 9 - 10 days it became apparent that she would pull through.  She started to eat and fought us when we syringed the Baytril into her mouth.  Her shape had started to change as well, she lost that hollowed cow look and took on a more rounded figure.

Mini is quite a large mouse weighing at least 50g before pregnancy.  Three months afterwards and she weighs a whopping 110g.  This is very unhealthy and we still carefully monitor her condition.

Litter # 10 Roc Jasmine & DS Austin Powers

Buck: Dog Star Austin Powers (chocolate point Himalayan Longcoat Rex)

Doe: Rocket Jasmine (agouti tan Longcoat Rex)

placed together:  17 April, 2008

date due:   8 May, 2008

Born:  12 May, 2008

expecting colours in:  Agouti, black, ?, longcoat rex.

After two failed breedings with other pairs, Jasmine and Austin have produced a lovely litter of 6 healthy babies for us.  Three have black eyes and three have pink eyes so the black eyed babies will be either agouti or black whilst the pink eyed babies may be white, himalayan or some form of dilute.  We should know colours by the time they're one week old.  Either way they will all be fluffy little longcoat rexes.

  3 days old

Boys and Girls?  A bit early to tell but at the moment we think we have 3 boys and 3 girls.  We'll know in another few days.

 Boys

 Girls

2 x pew/himalayan - himi reserved for Tracy, pew reserved for Sarah

1 x agouti reserved for Sarah

1 x black tan - reserved for Tracy

1 x pew/himalayan - staying

1 x agouti tan - reserved for Tracy

Little fluffies at 3 weeks of age.  It looks like we have 2 pink eyed whites and one Himalayan boy.  They are very inquisitive and Jasmine has taught them to stand on their hind legs - so cute.

Separated the boys from girls at 4.5 weeks of age.  The boys are pictured below - black tan boy and himi boy are rexes with lovely plush coats, while all the rest are double rexes with their body coat being very sparse at the moment.  Once they grow their adult coat it should thicken up.

These babies are so friendly.  When you put your hand down to them they all want to get on and climb up your arm.

Milly and Magoo produced 8 tiny babies on Halloween night.  We're looking forward to some adorable fluffy longcoat and longcoat rex tan babies.  Looks like we have 6 dark colours and 2 light colours, with the tan bellies they should be stunning.

Surprise, surprise!  We weren't expecting this, but we have two marked babies in the litter.  Looks like we have 6 black/tan and 2 blue (maybe?)/tan.

One black/tan male has white on the top of his head coming down onto his neck.  The light coloured female has a large white headspot. At 12 days of age we have 3 females and 5 males.  The colours and coats are:-

Girls                                                                  Boys

They have been in with the Siamese litter and sharing mothers.  We've separated the boys from the girls and at 4 weeks of age these babies are so cute. All have been reserved.

The two buff mice have turned out to be colourpoint beige.  This was to be expected because Milly carries the himalayan gene with some of her ancestors being colourpoint beige.  Unfortunately one of our reservations fell through and we have ended up with all the girls and two of the boys.

At her first show Ally tied on points with 3 other mice for Grand Champion but lost out on a countback.  At her 2nd and 3rd shows Ally has twice been Best Standard Mouse and Reserve Champion.  Merlin, who has only had one show and had to compete against Ally and his litter sister "Mini" was a creditable 3rd.  Being a youngster, his best is yet to come and he is developing into a stunning Siamese.

Ally (left) and Merlin (right) produced a litter of 11 babies right on time.  We were surprised at the size of the litter as Ally didn't appear very big.  Originally she was in our breeding tank with Milly (pregnant) and two nannies, her sister Pip and an experienced nanny, Patch.  Ally didn't seem to be coping with the situation, letting Pip cover the babies whilst she pretended they weren't there, so we moved her to private accommodation where she could concentrate on them.  This seems to have improved situation and hopefully we won't loose any.

All going well, photo of pinkies at 5 days old.  5 girls and 6 boys.

Ally's babies are now over 2 weeks old and all have their eyes open and are running around - so cute!  They are very hard to tell apart  and we are pleased with the whole litter.

Boys                                                       Girls

The Siamese are 4 weeks old and the girls have been separated from the boys and are living with Milly's litter.  It is still hard to tell them apart except for one girl who has unexpectedly turned out to be a longcoat (we are keeping her) and one boy who has a light tail marking. They're starting to point up and over the next few weeks we should see a dramatic difference in their colouring.

Litter # 5 PP Ebony & Zen Oden

Buck:   Zen Oden (Colourpoint Beige longcoat)

Doe:    Pied Pipers Ebony (Black self standard)

dob: 5 August, 2007

Two mice always on the go. We were hoping for Siamese in this litter with the idea of improving their points and shadings.  Ebony is from a Chinchilla mother and Agouti father, she has siblings who are Chinchilla, pointed, marked and also 2 hairless.  Odie is a Colourpoint Beige from a strong Siamese background and the pairing of these two produced exactly what we were after. All offspring have standard coats.

Although they're going through their first moult, it will be another few weeks until we know how dark their points are.  We are very happy with their conformation with most having radar dish ears and lovely big eyes.

In the litter of 11 babies we were very happy to see:-

                    •  3 x black self boys   (1 with a small tail tip)
                    • 1 x Siamese boy
                    • 2 x black self girls     (1 with a small tail tip)

Three weeks after their first litter, Jet & Sicke produced a second litter of 6 babies:

2 x snowtiger girls - std

2 x coffee broken marked boys - std

1 x snowtiger boy - std

1 x cream brindle boy - std

There was a huge discrepancy in the size of these babies and one of the snowtiger girls was so small and delicate she passed away at 3 weeks of age, unable to compete with her bigger siblings.  As they grew they evened out in size to be a very nice litter.

1 x chocolate fox boy - longcoat

We left Jet in with Sicke knowing that they would mate soon after birth and produce another litter within 3 weeks.  We had been told that the male dads make wonderful fathers and this proved correct with Jet proudly looking after his babies at every opportunity.

We kept 3 mice from this litter.  The two girls and the chocolate fox boy who is very much like his dad.  The cream brindle boy was sold to another breeder.

Litter # 2 Roc Dot & Gr Ch MB Fall Out Boy

Buck: Grand Champion Mountain Blue Fall Out Boy (siamese fox)

Doe:  Rocket Dot (siamese mismark)

13 March, 2007

For our second litter we borrowed a Siamese boy from another breeder.  "Fall Out Boy" is a grand champion and with Dot sired a beautiful litter of three females.  Dot was only a small mouse and at the age of 10 months was getting to the end of her breeding life.

Together they produced: 1 Siamese self, 2 Siamese foxes (1 with a kinked tail and small mismarking on her back).

We kept the siamese self and the mismarked fox whilst the second fox went back to "Fall Out Boys" breeder.  In the photos you will notice the babies are slightly different colours.  On maturity they are almost identical.

Litter # 1 RH Candy & TWR Kinky

Buck: The Wright Rodent Kinky (snowtiger)

Doe: Rodent Haven Candy (fawn blazed brindle)

9 January 2007

We were very excited when this first litter was born - 5 boys, 4 girls.  At 5 days we could tell their genders and by seven days their coats were starting to come through.  Candy with Dot acting as nanny did a terrific job to raise the litter.

Silver brindles - 1 boy, 1 girl

Chocolate foxes - 1 boy, 1 girl (kinked tail)

Fawn sables - 1 boy, 1 girl

Silver sable - 1 girl

Silver sable/brindle mismark - 1 boy

Fawn brindle - 1 boy (kinked tail)

We kept the silver sable and silver brindle girls, and the silver brindle and fawn sable boy.  The other two girls were sold to a friend and 3 boys went to the petshop where they were sold to one family.

At 5 months the boys started to fight and the family returned the mice to us.  These mice have grown beautifully and have wonderful temperaments.  The chocolate fox boy is stunning and has been unbeaten when shown.  The fawn brindle boy has also placed in the "Pet" classes when shown.  Unfortunately the silver sable/brindle boy passed away 3 weeks after returning home from renal failure which we suspect may have been the cause of the fighting.

One day before their first birthday we lost another brother "Dart" to renal failure as well.  Because of this we will not be breeding from any of the boys.  One of their sisters, "Arrow" has produced a litter for us and we will be watching their progress very closely.

Five weeks after we lost Dart, Mintie passed on.  She had inherited the obesity gene (common in brindles) and weighed 140g, 3-4 times heavier than a normal mouse.
